Interaction #25: A.P.C. Tame Impala
For the latest and perhaps loudest in A.P.C.’s ongoing series of collaborations – Tame Impala’s Kevin Parker explores “psychedelic minimalism” in a tightly-curated collection perfectly in line with the Australian’s band technicolor sonic world. “When my daughter introduced me to Tame Impala,” remembers A.P.C. founder Jean Touitou, “it struck me as a synthesis of everything I’ve liked since the 1960s, from Soft Machine to Pink Floyd. I immediately loved their musical singularity and their deceptively casual style.” A.P.C. Tame Impala explores Kevin Parker’s bold, maximalist creative vision through the lens of A.P.C.’s considered, minimalist design language. A meticulous attention to detail and a fascination with the analog inspiring the modern provides connective tissue to both worlds; just as Kevin Parker’s music and live shows build an immersive sonic world, the collection offers an aesthetic, wearable accompaniment to the sound of Tame Impala.

A.P.C. MUSIC
Music is truly at the heart of A.P.C. The brand's headquarters on Rue Madame houses a recording studio where the founder, Jean Touitou, has been inviting his musician friends for over 30 years. These sessions often lead to original creations and albums recorded under the A.P.C. name. To date, from A.P.C. Tracks Vol I to Canada and Boniche Dub, 33 albums have been produced and are still available on various streaming platforms. The guest list is eclectic, shaped by Jean Touitou's encounters, desires, and instincts. Talents from diverse backgrounds, such as Bryan Adams, Joey Starr, Grégoire Garrigues, Jarvis Cocker, Tim Blanks, Jonathan Richman, Julian Schnabel, Robert Lloyd, Sonny Sharrock, Bill Laswell, Hiroshi Fujiwara, Louis Eisner, and Ino Hidefumi, have all passed through the studio on Rue Madame. Jean Touitou, who in the 1970s established a short-lived mail-order business for 60s garage punk psychedelic records sourced from the USA, particularly enjoys the convenience of moving from the studio to meetings with bankers without leaving Rue Madame. While the influence of the musicians he admires was evident in the very first A.P.C. collections—strongly marked by the personal styles of Brian Jones, Ray Davies, and Syd Barrett—he emphasizes that these two realms are firmly compartmentalized: "For me, the often-cited relationship between fashion and music is an illusion. Even though I have a foot in both industries, the creative approach comes from different areas of my brain."
